Small Fragment Of Time

Hiking through the woods on a cool spring day,
Watching the Squirrels as they ran and played;
Then suddenly ! Off to my left ,I noticed a flick,
It was a beautiful Doe nibbling on a stick;
As I traveled on around the old road way,
I detected the smell of fresh cut hay;
Out of the woods and through the field,
Just wondering how much this crop would yield;
Then off in a distance, the voice of some Dogs,
By the sound, they were trailing Wild Hogs;
But much closer I heard, a big Bull Frog croaking,
So loud so course, sounded like he was choking;
Around the bend as the pond I passed,
I heard the Frog go splish ,splish, splash;
Quail don’t give any warning before they fly’
They scared me so, I thought I would die;
Down the mountain and across the river,
Rain was falling, I began to shiver;
A few more yards ,everything would be alright,
I smiled to myself, Home was now in sight;
Through the door I ran and changed my cloths,
And got even warmer, As I stood by the stove;
I knew by the smell, Mother was cooking over wood,
My Mom could cook like no one else could,
I was anxious I was eager and able,
Supper would soon be on the table;
So many fond memories I recall as I grow older with age,
Another time, another page;
This is just a small fragment of time, of a time long gone,
But in my mind (Like so many) it lives on and on and on………
