Looking over the Charles, the apparent calm and stillness of the river couldn’t be further from the truth. This is Day 2 of arctic air blasting Boston, stinging sub-zero wind chills vibrate the Mass Ave Bridge and transform the river below into a sheet of ice. Only isolated patches of water cling to the pilings in the middle of the bridge while a layer of ice stretches from shore to shore, Cambridge on the left (north) to Boston on the right (south).
