Artist's Description

The sun breaks the horizon to turn dawn into sunrise, just like it does every day, every where. A rock spire is backlit to draw a silhouette seen in countless scenes, countless photographs over countless years. But on Navajo sand, surrounded by the morning breeze and shadows of eternal monuments of rock, there is nothing routine or ordinary about the magic of the sun breaking dawn at Totem Pole, Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, Valley of the rocks.
