A special black bear (Ursus americanus kermodei) lives in secluded forest of western British Columbia. But he’s no ordinary bear, he’s a white, leucistic Black Bear. And this is no ordinary forest. It is the Great Bear Rainforest. An area National Geographic calls The Wildest Place in North America – Land of the Spirit Bear.
This image was taken September 2008 and is being posted on the eve and in honor of Earth Day 2012. It was an extreme honor to visit this unspoiled wilderness and meet Spirit Bear in person. A privilege that reminds me the importance of celebrating Earth Day every day.
