Artist's Description

This beautiful girl was photographed June of 2011. She was a young foal then, just enjoying the dunes on a small barrier island where people are only day visitors. Here, instead of human development, there is sand, marsh grass and about 100 wild descendants of Spanish horses shipwrecked long ago off the mid-Atlantic coast. As last year’s newest addition to the Wild Horses of Shackleford Banks, I envision her today as a lovely filly, proudly living up to the unbridled spirit of the Spanish mustangs who swam to these shores centuries ago and carved a heritage from nothing but marsh grass, seawater and salt air.
