Artist's Description

There is a lot of unpleasant news these days about the plight of bees, as their numbers and health decline around the world, probably due to the effects of pesticides. Bees are essential for plant pollination, so without them it is not far fetched to imagine catastrophic issues for the planet. On Pender Island, BC, Canada, there seems to be a very healthy population of Bumble Bees this spring. These two are busy collecting nectar from the flowers of native salal flowers. I shot this image handheld using a Nikon D700 with a Nikkor f4 200 mm micro lens (ISO 1250, +0.33 EV, f10, 1/1250).
