Artist's Description

Featured in the ‘Colour and Light’ group

Northern Harriers are amazing raptors to watch as the fly over fields and marshes hunting small rodents and birds. Every now and then, they hover, motionless save for their wing movements, waiting for a vole or mouse they spotted to show itself again. If it does, they drop from their hovering position down into the field or marsh to capture their prey. This image was captured on a Nikon D700 body with a 600 mm f4 lens and 1.4 teleconverter in the Boundary Bay area of south western British Columbia, Canada, very close to the US border.
