I love this shot! For some time, several years, I’m sure, I have tried to get a good shot of a male ring necked pheasant, a most beautiful and elusive bird. I have a few images on RB that resulted from a great deal of work and time “hunting” this wonderful creature. This shot resulted from shear luck. I was driving in a rural farming area of south Delta, in British Columbia, when I saw a pheasant on the road in front of me. I stopped a long ways from the bird, checked him out with my binoculars, and decided to try to get a shot. He headed off into a field with sparse plant growth. I kept following, my camera and long lens on a monopod for mobility. I got some great shots, this one being my fave. I hope you like it too.

Image captured in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, using a Nikon D700, Nikkor f4 600 mm lens and 1.4 telconverter mounted on a Gitzo monopod (ISO 800, daylight WB, 0 EV, f9, 1/800s).
