Artist's Description

This hawk had just chased a mature red-tailed hawk from the tree. Their conflict attracted my attention, but by the time I was able to get within range for a making a picture, only one hawk remained. I think this one is an immature red-tailed hawk, but I am uncertain. Perhaps my friend, Marvin, RB’s raptor photographer can help with identification. As I was shooting, a rather noisy, bouncy dog upset the bird, who is clearly showing his aggravation. Moments later, he decided to find a more peaceful area. The image was captured on the banks of the Fraser River very near its mouth, just south of Vancouver. The area is rich in bird life, attracting the predators like this hawk.

Nikon D300, Nikkor f4 600 mm lens, ISO 400, f10, 1/500s.
