Artist's Description

Sandhill Cranes are large birds that are very vulnerable to environmental degradation and loss of habitat. This bird is one of a group that has migrated from the Arctic to the Fraser River Estuary, just south of Vancouver, on Canada’s west coast. I was close enough to this bird to get a nice head shot. Image captured with my Nikon D300, mounted with a Nikon 20-400 mm lens and teleconverter. So I was really close. Shot at f6.7, 1/400 sec, iso 450.
