Artist's Description

This photo captures an experience I had observing two adult barn swallows feeding their young. Every five minutes or so, an adult would swoop into the nest area to feed one of the young nestlings. All four babies would open their mouths in excitement as if to say “Feed me!”. When one bird seemed to be receiving more than his share, the others would try to change position in the nest, which was a very funny event to see. The image was captured at Delta, British Columbia under the eave of a building located near the Fraser River.

I needed a flash to make this capture. I had the D300 and 200-400 mm lens mounted on a tripod. I used a cable release to trip the shutter. The image was captured at 1/60 second, f10, auto ISO 900. I was situated about 8 metres from the nest.
