“Seek and ye shall find,” I said to myself, as I ventured forth to capture images of butterflies today, pushing my convalescence beyond what my doctor suggested. So many redbubblers have been uploading wonderful pictures of butterflies, I felt image envy and needed to have my own. Well, this is one. Not the greatest ever image of a butterfly for sure, but mine for today. This beautiful creature is actually a little beat up, just like me. He is a western tiger swallowtail, if my research is correct (I know there are bubblers out there who will quickly correct me if I am misleading you), but sans part of his tail. I felt an affinity to him, so here he is, imperfections and all.
Technical: (so I qualify for the technical group) Nikon D300, Nikon 80-200 mm lens, with 1.4 teleconverter and close up tube, 1/640, f9, ISO 400.

Great capture David! Wonderful detail!! I have such a hard time with butterfly shots…
Excellent work, beautiful detail and colors.
Far from a great butterfly shot, but one of the few I have, and only one of two I have posted to bubble.
Thanks Mike. Me too. I took a ton just to get one good enough to post.
this is a beautiful butterfly shot David! he’s gorgeous and you did a wonderful job capturing him. yes i do believe he is missing part of his tail/ right hand wing. but i could be mistaken
Thank you Kel. No I think you are right on. I am guessing (not a butterfly expert), that in butterfly time he is old, and wearing out. Maybe a butterfly expert can help us out with this. Hope all is going well for you.
Lovely capture with excellent color and clarity!
Thank you so much.
great job on this yellow shallow tail (i think that’s the name), anyhow both being from BC, i see these here and there they sure aren’t easy to shot, well done with this one
Great photo! A “slice of life”.
There’s a story I heard about Sir Winston Churchill: It seems “they” wanted an oil painting of him for posterity. He posed patiently enough, but checked the work. The artist asked if he wanted his warts painted out, and he declined, saying he wanted it “…warts and all”! I don’t know if it’s true or not, but that’s not important. It’s the “warts and all” theory that I like.
Oh Dayonda, great comment. I felt that about this little creature. Shall I wait until I have the perfect butterfly, or should I upload this one, “warts and all”. I love your comments on my work. Thank you so much.
Very nice shot. You sure are getting alot of these especially carrying around the D300 with the 80-200. That is not a lightweight group especially after surgery.
Absolutely gorgeous !
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your feedback.
Wonderful capture !
Glad you like it.
