Artist's Description

The dark clouds receded, the sun came out, the wind died down, but the waves continued. I saw the opportunity for a good picture, with this as the result. The image was captured on Discovery Passage, the body of water named after George Vancouver’s ship that separates Quadra Island from Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada. In this pic you can see the lighthouse on Quadra Island, and just visible to the left of the lighthouse is Cape Mudge Village, an aboriginal village that existed at the time of George Vancouver’s voyage in the 18th Century. The community of Campbell River is now built along the water on the Vancouver Island side of the Passage. In the summer, cruise ships from Vancouver and Seattle pass through here on their way to and from Alaska.
