To Late To Take Back

To Late To Take Back

The tank was full, the night was young, and I alone,
I stepped on the gas as I talked on the cell phone.
A laughter later, other speeding cars, passion words,
Soon I found myself racing Chevy’s and some Fords.

Shifting gears, winding roads, and running a red light,
Determined to win the race while putting up a fight.
Loud speakers, dangerous curves, and no safety belt,
The tires on the wet pavement were beginning to melt.

Honking horns, lights flashing, and sirens blasting,
Soon the white colored lanes were very contrasting.
Screeming voices, tires exploding, and twisting metal,
Lost control and no longer in charge of the gas pedal.

Body parts missing, faceless torsos, and cries of pain,
My heart was shaken as my shocked mind went insaned.
Innocent victims, wrecked vehicles, and lost lives,
Too late to reason if all of it was ever the wise.

Artist's Description

Driving and talking on the cell phone seemed easy for this teenager until the worst happened. It always seems like it could never happen to us, but we know better right! We just don’t want to believe it, and do we listen to our own advise? I witness such an incident twice this past month. I saw the expression of his face, and I heard the cries of friends and families. This is just a reminder to be careful.
