The Beautiful Butterflies

The Beautiful ButterfliesI could see the tattoo on her shoulder and I remembered where I had seen it before. The inked butterfly was something I wouldn’t forget since I had seen it two fold on the same person. The last time was only about a month ago when I had stopped by the night club for a few drinks after work. The case load down at the police station had been too much for me with so many unsolved homicides and I needed something to calm me down before going home to my lonely world at home. While I sat there at the table I glanced at this beautiful woman that was sitting right in front of me and she was wearing this low cut black dress that just magnified the gorgeous body on her. On her left side of her back shoulder was this precious looking butterfly. I was about to make a nice comment when her date showed up and they started arguing. When I got up I walked right in front of the couple and I glanced at her wanting to see if she would ask me to intervene, and that’s when I saw the second tattoo on her right front shoulder that almost matched the previous one I had seen on her back. Her faced was so pretty and I knew I was out of line to say something, but I did it anyway. I just told her I liked her butterflies and I waited to see if her boyfriend would get jealous and perhaps say something to me. I figured at least the argument they were having would shift over to me. I knew I couldn’t get involved in some altercation of any sort because I was off duty and it might cause a stir back at police head quarters, but heck, I figured that if they called the cops they would believe my side of the story. There were plenty of witnesses there to confess about the instigator. When he said nothing I looked at his eyes and I spoke in that silent language that we men have, and I knew he understood that if he touched that beautiful woman he was with I would punch him in the month. I hadn’t seen a good looking woman like her in a long time and my late hours at work had made me loose how it felt to wrap my arms around a devilish creature like the man’s date. However; she smiled at me and her baby blue eyes made me want to melt inside of me and after she acknowledged my comment of the butterflies she thanked me as I walked away. Right before I exited the door I gave her one more stare because I just couldn’t help myself and I knew it was flirting, but it didn’t matter for the time being. Now, there she was lying face down on the street pavement and so beaten up that if it was not for the tattoos I never would have recognized her. She was alive, but her condition was too much to bare. I got in the back of the ambulance and watched over her all the way to the emergency hospital. I felt like I knew her and I needed to tell her that I would bring justice to who ever beat her that way. She was wearing a different dress than the month before when I first laid eyes on her. I did ask her some questions about the incident and I got as much information as I could from her. She didn’t recognize me from what I gathered, but once we arrived at the hospital I had enough data to make a report and try to get a judge to file criminal charges on the person whom might fit the description. I swore to the beautiful woman I had seen a month earlier that I would make sure I apprehended her attacker, and I was very determined to do so.I visited that lady a couple of times at the hospital within the rules of my department and continued to investigate the possible motives and the where abouts of the monster that had done so much damage to her. During the next three weeks that she recuperated I dropped by to give her an up dated version of the on going work I had been assigned to do and how I was progressing. I must confess that every time I saw her I started to fall for her. It was wrong to get emotionally involved, and it was not because of the investigation, it was for the first time I laid eyes on her. I had fallen in love with her way back then, on my own time and not the police and city time. However; I was guilty of enjoying watching her there at the hospital. Her figure and demeanor were back to what they once were and on the day she was to leave the hospital I was there to drive her home safely, it was my duty.I escorted her up to first door of the building and asked her politely if she wanted me to make sure the apartment she lived in was okay. She told me that it was alright and not to worry about her. She stopped on one of the steps that led up the stairs and waved at me and I could see her front tattoo of the butterfly. Once she turned around and gave me her back I saw the second butterfly and I smiled as I saw that gorgeous body of hers walk away and up the steeps to her apartment door. When the door automatically opened she was startled and so was I as a man grabbed her arm and pulled her in. I got off the car again as the first door closed and I ran up to it hoping to catch it before it securely locked. Suddenly it was opened from the inside from her apartment as she stepped outside to scream at me that everything was alright. I didn’t want to believe it as the man I had seen at the night club stepped out too. He also said," She will be fine now, thanks, she’s in good hands with me, and hey, I remember you, you liked my girls tattoo at the club a while’s back. Well, well, a cop, who would have thought you were some type of a detective or something."
