2009

Has anybody seen or know what happened
to Mr. Two Thousand Nine?
I’m sure that when the whole year is over
we will know if he did just fine.

We elected a new president and it is good
that the color of a man’s skin is okay,
Even a woman ran for vice president,
but stumbled along the hardship way.

Our economy suffered a road block
as many home owners lost their house,
Many working people lost their jobs
and food was scarce for even a mouse.

Hurricanes and floods brought many hardships
throughout this beautiful land,
Corrupted company investors robbed
working people’s money from their hands.

Drug lords from across our borders
started killing people when profits dropped,
Farmers watched as weather patterns
inflicted lost yields of precious crops.

Prisons gained populations when crimes
climbed upward from previous years,
Fighting for drug turfs in our neighbors country
spilled over and thus bringing fears.

Has anybody seen or know what happened
to Mr. Two Thousand Nine?
I truly hope that all of these pressing problems
we will all leave behind.

Let’s hope we can meet a blessed new year
as we wait for the coming of Mr. Two Thousand Ten.
So pull down the old calender and start
crossing out 2009 with a black pen.
