The Amazing Bike Race

Becky’s mind was hard at work,“I need to win this race. The winner gets groceries for a whole month. This could really help my family and allow me to go back to school instead of scavenging for food for my ill parents. This old bicycle has one more good race left and we have gone down this treacherous mountain many times. I have to win, no, I will win. I promised my mom and dad.”“On your mark, get set, go!”The tires on the out-dated bike had no traction, but there was no money. She stayed behind the back and waited for the right move to pass. Becky knew where to make the dangerous attempt to take the lead. Normally the person ahead of the pack would most likely win the race once they made it through the first mile. After that the tight turns made it impossible to pass safely without falling 5000 feet down from the narrow path. After four hours of grueling with the aches and pains and applying the brakes while racing downhill the pads on the rims became useless. Becky could no longer control the speed of her bicycle and the only spot where she could gamble and pass was one minute ahead. She braced herself knowing there was no option left without any brakes to slow her down. Her life depended on her next move and the risk was no longer an option, it was her destiny.Becky made a maneuver unseen or heard before then. She turned the front wheel at a ninety degree angle and hit the giant bolder in a slanted way that the bike flew up in the air. She was free wheeling when the tires hit the side of the mountain next to them, bounced off, and she made a half three sixty that placed her in front of her rivals. After landing her bike could not continue as she made way for the rest of the pack to pass her. The frame was bent, the tires were bare of any rubber, and the pedals were still falling down the mountain side. It took her four more hours to walk down with the pieces of the remaining bike in her hands.Becky was greeted by a hundred riders and a thousand cheering fans that had stayed way beyond the end of the race. They drove her home in a truck load of groceries.
