I See Me

I see trees that have weathered the storm of life,
some shed their leaves to fight the cold that comes.
My legs help me visit them so that I can touch their skin,
their bark is thick to shield them from the elements of the world.

With the tips of my fingers I feel their lust to survive,
and I close my eyes as I speak to them to give me their secrets.
I allow them to feel my pain too and share our common grounds,
in return for making them part of me they give me wisdom in thoughts.

We cry together while my tears land below my feet,
thus a gentle wind blows as the dew falls on my head as we agree.
My smile reaches them inside because their branches sway,
and they protect me from the freezing rain and wind while I stand behind.

Like friends we part our ways for now until we can speak again,
but we have become stronger and we encourage our hearts to live.
I walk amongst giants and I warm the grounds with my steps of hope,
I shout for all to hear,“Stand and fight another year!”because in them, I see me.
