Surmising Custody

The transparent glass window from where Anne was viewing the pouring rain had a glossy image of her. Behind her were the shouting voices of her divorcing parents arguing over who would take what possessions. The teenage girl could see the puffy eyes on the reflection and the ringing words inside her ears as she covered them to shed her from the abusive bargaining words, “Anne will go with me!”The loud slamming of the door clued her that her dad had left the bitching mother and her. He made a u-turn and came back inside the house-drenching wet and told Anne, " I will be back for you honey, once it’s all settled!"The screeching tires spun on the gravel road as he waved good-bye and just as sudden the truck hit an electrical pole and exploded. A crying Anne surmised who would have custody over her.
