Artist's Description

The Fighter Collection’s FM-2 Wildcat, built in 1944, is seen taxying out at the Great Warbirds Air Display at West Malling in 1984. It carries the spurious Bu No 47201 based on its civil registration N47201, the correct Bu No is 55627. Note the “Pudsey Bear” charity logo on the cowling. Built by the Eastern Division of General Motors, the FM-2 is a lighter and more powerful version of Grumman’s F4F Wildcat for use on the smaller escort carriers. This aircraft is now in a Museum in Palm Beach, USA but is still registered with the FAA as being airworthy.
