Artist's Description

The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Filght’s Lancaster B.1 PA474 pictured at RAF Coningsby while undergoing its first major servicing in 1982. Noteworthy are all the new rivets in the tail area, replaced to avoid dissimilar metal corrosion. The Lancaster carries the “new” 617 Sqn markings on this side but still carries the markings of No 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron in which it was delivered to the BBMF on the other side, the paint job being finished later as the gantries were moved.
