A Slave to the Canvas

A slave to his work.
Commanded to compose this,
Create that.

Within the pen
A heart is to be found.
Ink escaping as blood,
Slowly fading.

Each piece
A creation of beauty.
Applause sweeps as a flood,
Drowning his ears
Into a world of silence
A world of delightful chaos.

For,
The mind of an artist is
Scarcely sane.

Everything
Entering the eyes sight,
Might spark inspiration.
Frustration peaks.

Society,
So small yet,
Casts a burden so overbearing
On the shoulders of this patron.
Running its victim into the ground.

Anticipation!
Anticipation!
“How great shall this piece be?!”
They say.

Pressure!
Oh so
Much pressure!
He might die.

Artist's Description

My good friend Julian Ortiz (aka D. Munky) was the inspiration for this peom. He is a great artist and is commonly asked by people to draw things for them, thats where the idea for “A Slave to the Canvas” came from.
