The Glass

I hold the glass you gave me
Gently swirling the liquid inside
Around
And around
Feeling it
Admiring it
The textures
The aroma
The smoothness
And as I enter into it’s spell
I feel it slip from my fingers
It falls to the ground
As if in slow motion

I watch the glass smash into a thousand pieces
And the liquid covers the floor
With a sharp sound
That makes me shudder
I see the pieces lying broken
Like dreams that became disappointment
Never to be united
Never to be a vessel
Never to have clarity
Never to be held

And my heart aches
Then breaks into a thousand pieces
