I occasionally get a fair amount of stick from my mates about being a music hipster as I get all obsessed with the mathematic loops in Autechre or complain that my Betty Harris 7"s weren’t pressed at the best plant. But then I go and see Muse and make them also think I am a pop tart. Keeps them on their toes. But you know, they put on a good show. Unless you’re not into flashy lights or imagining you’re on a space station.
I have to say though, the no alcohol, no smoking, no moshing regulations don’t half lead to no fun. Being in a mosh pit with sober people is basically like standing on a tube during rush hour with your iPod on. You start to notice how disturbingly odd human kind has become and get confused as to why you paid through the nose to be there. Personally I had hoped to break a rib and have 8 people rub their sweat all over me, sadly I think I just got bumped once, and they apologised. “It’s a rock concert” I said, “No need to apologise”. They apologised again. I think the band noticed it too. (The lack of insanity, not me being bumped) A far cry from helping a girl who’d snapped her shin over the fence during Rancid’s set at the Reading Festival in 1997.
Still, fine show. BDO was better crowd though, they’d been drinking for at least 15 hours.
