Cinderella, New Rhymed Version

About one girl you’ll hear a tale,
Cinderella was her name.
She was smart and she was tidy,
Cooked an apple pie on Friday,
Scrubbed the floors and washed the pots,
And had a stepmother, of course :(
Her stepsisters, don’t you check,
Were as beautiful as SHREK!
Father was a little dumb,
Being under their thumb.
But again, as story goes,
The girl had friends, not only foes.
She kept lizards, mice and rats,
And one large pumpkin just at hand;
‘Cause she felt she’d soon discover
Her great Fairy Godmother.
Right she was, as late that summer
They were told by a farmer
That a ball was to take place
At the Prince’s Grand Palace.
They accepted invitation,
As it was a great occasion.
Cinderella’s wish to go
Was refused with one sharp “NO!!!”
So she worked all day and night
Making clothes fit tight
Her two sisters and the mother
Who were just worth one another.
Hardly had they left the place,
Leaving her in such disgrace,
When a huge lady appeared
Telling her: “Calm down, my dear.
I will do all that you want,
As I have this magic wand!”
Cinderella cried at once:
“Yes, I need your magic charms!
And I promise that at midnight
I’ll be home sleeping tight!”
There it is! She knew the rules,
She had read a lot of books.
The Godmother did her best,
So the girl could stand the test:
When she appeared at the ball,
Everyone gasped and just said: “OOOH!!”
The Prince himself gave way to gasps
And burst out dancing with her,
Dance after dance.
As time went by,
They laughed and smiled;
As time was up,
They fell in love…
She looks at watch –
It’s one to twelve!
He says: “Be mine, and we’ll be fine.”
She says: “Ok, but I’ve no time.”
He says: “Don’t go, feel at home.”
She accepts the proposition,
And she has a smart decision!
So she says: “Wait just a minute,
I will have to go down.”
She appears right at midnight
…Wearing her home gown!
WELL!!! The Prince is all delight!
He’s been dreaming all his life
Of a woman of connections
Without social conventions!
He exclaims: “Bravo! Well done!
I’ve been having so much fun!
You’re the only one I know
Who can change so quickly,
You must as well admit this:
You haven’t changed your slippers!” :)

Artist's Description

I wrote this new version of Cinderella for a class in Englsih, as a home assignment. We were asked to create a new version of some famous story, so I chose Cinderella because I liked the plot and in many cases I do associate myself with her. But I never liked the traditional ending, so here is my own solution. I hope you like the humour :)
