The church in Hrísey, build 1928.
Hrísey is a peaceful island in the middle of Eyjafjörður, Iceland. It is the second largest island in Iceland. Hrísey is a well known paradise for bird watchers and the most abundant of all birds on the island is the ptarmigan. It has a population of approximately 200 people, and has been continuously inhabited since the time of settlement in Iceland. The village is a trimmed fishing village with paved streets, tidy gardens and a view of the surrounding mountains which can be equalled by few. The island is connected to the mainland by a ferry service to Árskógssandur, a fifteen-minute sailing.
