autumn equinox

Today is the first day of Fall in the Northern hemisphere. Hurray! The beautiful colors of the trees and grasses will sweep across the mountains, the valleys, plains… everywhere.
Back home, in Louisiana, the spider lillies are erupting in beautiful red splendor. Although the trees are mostly evergreens in the deep south, there are still tell-tale signs of seasonal changes. The smells are earthy. The light difuses more golden than green. The fog lingers in the fields a bit longer. Grackels roost in the oak trees en masse.
Quite different from the Southern Fall, the Pacific Northwest is ablaze with color. It’s a spectacular artist’s palette of golds, oranges, reds, browns and purples. The days are shorter, nights longer . The cool mornings, with moist fog and warm sunny afternoons, aid in the production of the biochemical changes.
