Artist's Description

In November 2007 my husband went on a trip to the Flinders Rangers. He and two friends flew from Broken Hill and as they were approaching their destination there was a huge and violent storm in their way. They were forced to land and seek refuge on a nearby sheep station. They landed on the dirt air strip and were welcomed into the homestead for a cuppa. Then it rained, rained and rained. When the storm passed the adventurers found that the plane had sunk into the air strip and was stuck in the mud. The hospitality of people in the Australian outback is second to none. They were feed, given beds and entertained marvelously by their hosts.
All this to say that whilst waiting for the air strip to dry so they could tow the plane out of the bog, Russell took a photo of the Hills hoist cloths line out the back of the shearers quarters. There was no red bra on it but he insisted I paint the scene and put one on – the clothes line that is.
Oh, and they never made it to the Flinders except to fly over Wilpenia Pound and then straight back to Broken Hill.

The original is still available.
