A Moment With You (Sleep, My Love)

Pills for sleep…
I’ve taken two and twice the pain
To get to you
For in my dreams is where you dwell
(I close my eyes)
Your gentle touch has cast on me the lovers’ spell

By day my heart is hard like stone
And I’m surrounded, yet…alone…
For strangers speak to me in pleasantries
In gaurded conversations
As I grow weary of their words I say to them:
“Depart from me so I can rest.”
As they depart, I rest

By night is when you speak to me
In somber, quiet undertones
We talk of other-worldly things;
By the quiet stream of the strange new land.

I’m silent as you take my hand
For I cannot cry out to you
And hold you like I wish to do
For in this dream you cannot see
The pain the rain has poured on me.
Undone, I look away from you
The softest tears began to flow
And that is when you hold me close
You sigh and whisper into me:
“I know… I know…”

You lay your head upon my breast
Sleep is the only place I rest
So let me sleep; I rest

Artist's Description

This poem is about a love that I lost many years ago. Even though much time has passed, in my dream everything is just as it was back then, and I can remember everything…his love, his voice, his touch…everything.
