What a day, My wife lost her wedding ring swimming around the boat with me earlier in the day. My good friend tied a rope to a wrench and threw it in where he thought we were before the boat had turned on its anchor. Currents and swell in the day were much larger than the evening. So chances were grim.
I then went ashore and and borrowed scuba gear, spent probably half an hour on the botton 10metres down working in a spiral pattern from where the wrench was.
Here i was at the bottom with the visibility at about 30cm ahead of my face and searching for a white gold (platinum colour) among thousands of pipi and tua tua shells. Not much hope. Another friend searched by free diving untill she got too cold and then my mate grabbed the diving gear and was down maybe a minute when he popped up with it in his fingers! He said straightfowardly and without guile that it was about 2cm from the wrench he threw in. We hadnt looked close enough to the wrench!
And all of this before a fantastic evening of songs, ginger wine and friendship watching the bonfires on the distant beaches blaze.
