Love Can be Dark

I walk alone
Down jagged lanes
Hunting for
A missing face

A missing part
A missing heart
A missing love
That won’t depart

Her voice still shivers inside me
A steady whimper that floats around
The taste of her tongue still heavy
In my mouth, despair, that won’t be drowned

Wake up with bloodshot eyes
A longing that tugs at my heart
Blinded by the naked light
That once was magnificent art

The salt from my tears caresses my wounds
From a love that has long since shattered
Jolts me awake and puts me to sleep
Gazing at my world in tatters

Struggle to recall what I’m fighting for
But not the accompanying sorrow
Won’t let go, refuse to let go
Just endure until tommorow

Stare down as I plod
Rain tickles my neck
Remembered when I’d wait
Despite all the heck

But lights have extinguished
Nightfall has dawned
The rats have all settled
Curtains all drawn

Bars have closed
Cars have parked
Still I will not accept
That love can be dark

Love Can be Dark
