Artist's Description

I went to one of my favourite Fungi hunting grounds on the weekend to see what had “popped” up after the heavy rains. Unfortunately the road was still flooded and blocked. On my way out I spotted a tree uprooted in a creek bed that I thought may make an interesting shot (it didn’t) when I noticed some reddish colouring on the top of a moss covered fence post. Switched lenses and got in close to take this extraordinary flora. I’m not sure what they are but think they may be (the red “flowering” bits) Cladonia floerkeanna, a type of Lichen. Of course this is Australia not Europe so they must be something very similar and related. Even the edge of the post in the background looked like a distant mountain range. They were so “alien” that it prompted me to have a bit of “Photoshop” fun with an underexposed shot, hence (see below):
