Shooting music gigs- Sal Kimber & The Rollin' Wheel

I had the pleasure of shooting one of my favourite bands a few weeks ago.
Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel played at The Vine Hotel, Wangaratta.
It was an interesting & challenging shoot. The light in the pub was really poor and I only had a 18-270mm 1:3.5-6.5 lens to use- actually I tell a lie, I did have my 50mm 1.8 but because of the crowd I wasn’t able to use the 50mm. I got some good shots but the ones I really liked (on my camera LCD) were not focussed where I wanted them to be when seen on my computer- the disadvantage of the low f# ! To compensate for the low light I had to whack the ISO right up so the shots were really grainy. I downloaded the trial version of Nik software (DFine) which I was impressed with but decided the better option for next time is use a more appropriate lens …

Highly Commended in Chiltern Art Exhibition

The Queen’s Birthday long weekend was when I ‘won’ my first prize for photography.

My photo, Stoic
won the ‘Highly Commended’ award for the photography section.

I was pretty stoked in that I won this award in my hometown!

As I wandered around the exhibition, I heard several people comment on how wonderful my photos were. The nice thing was that these people didn’t know me, so their comments were totally unbiased.

Since then I have also got my first paid photo gig which is coming up in a couple of weeks, so needless to say, I am a happy lass!

Help re photo storage when travelling..

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on the best (and cheapest!) way to store photos while travelling. I will be away for a month and shooting everyday but I only have a few memory cards (compact flash) and I am not taking my laptop. Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance,

Nat :)

Trip Booked! Now for some shoot suggestions....

Woo hoo! Today I booked my four-week trip to USA and Canada! I am so excited. I will be spending time in California, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New York. Does anyone have any suggestions of things/places I should definitely take my camera?

Did I mention that I’m excited? Boomwackayeah!

Offer to buy photo, but how much? Any advice?

I was recently contacted by someone wanting to use an image I had taken of them for a Sydney newspaper magazine lift-out. The person had offered to buy the image to use in the mag. I did a bit of research on costing an image, but found it a little difficult to work out. In the end, the image wasn’t purchased, but it’s got me thinking about how to cost images incase I receive another query to purchase an image.

Does anyone have any advice, tips etc on selling images for use in publications or various other media?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Nat :)
