Artist's Description

Back Row – Lillian Rose Buckle & Clifford Buckle (My mum & her younger brother)
Centre – Frank & Alice Buckle (My Grandparents).
Front – Sheila Buckle (My auntie and baby of the family).

It’s thought provoking why my grandparents would have had this portrait taken.

In the midst of World War Two, when times were hard, food and money scarce.

My family were in the heart of London, where air raids were a nightly occurrence and became just a way of life. Frank & Alice’s eldest son – Bill, was at the front line and hence absent in this picture.

Perhaps they had this picture taken to send to him?

I will have to find out more so that I can complete the story. Fortunately they did all survive the war. My grandfather died in 1970 and my grandmother in 1992. My mother is 82 years old now, my auntie just had her 69th birthday, my uncle Cliff (the boy in the picture) sadly passed away a few years ago now but Uncle Bill is still battling on and I will ask him to tell me more.
