Artist's Description

Water recurrence of the flood plains of central Australia, covering the floodplains of the Georgina and Diamantina Rivers, and Coopers Creek.

This image was created from the Water Observations from Space (WOfS) web service available from Geoscience Australia, overlayed on a simple black background.

WOfS is created by Geoscience Australia, showing how often surface water has been observed by the Landsat satellites for all of Australia from 1987 to present day. Where water is seen often the recurrence is coloured in the blues and purples. Where water is rarely seen it is coloured in reds and yellows.

More information about WOfS can be found at the Geoscience Australia website: http://www.ga.gov.au/wofs. WOfS is available under Creative Commons 4.0 (CC-BY).
