Artist's Description

Taken from the tip of the wing, this is a complete side view of a 1958 Eastern Airlines DC-7B owned by Historical Flight Foundation. The HFF is unique in that its Douglas Aircraft Co. DC-7B aircraft represents the only U.S. based, four engine, passenger prop-liner in operation today.

The most unique aspect of this image for me is the fact that the owner of the plane suggested that I walk (well, sort of crawl) out to the very tip of the wing to get this shot. Of course, I couldn’t refuse! I exited through the emergency exit under the word “Eastern.” The wing was coated in oil… very slippery.

This plane is parked at Opalocka Airport in Miami, Florida.

Please see my other images of this wonderful airplane:

Taken using a Canon 5d, Tamron 28-300 VC lens. Three pictures hand-stitched in Photoshop, final processing in Aperture.

Update: the aircraft is now grounded in South Carolina due to an engine failure while touring the East coast of the US. Funds were unavailable to rebuild the damage to the engine, but the plane took its passengers safely back to the airport on its final flight.
