Artist's Description

This old water-wheel millhouse sits along the path in Red Rock State Park park near Sedona, Arizona. The millhouse wheel was powered by water diverted from Oak Creek, on what used to be Smoke Trail Ranch in the 1940’s and 50’s.

The State of Arizona will be closing this beautiful park due to lack of funding on June 3, 2010, along with 13 other of 27 state parks. Sad.

  • GOOD NEWS… this park and several others were spared, and are still open! This, thanks to a threat from the Federal Government’s Acting National Park Service (NPS) Intermountain Regional Director Mary Gibson Scott to Governor Jan Brewer and other state officials:

“The purpose of this letter is to alert you that the closure of any state park or historic site that has received LWCF assistance would be viewed by the NPS as being in noncompliance with Federal requirements. Noncompliance will jeopardize LWCF funding and reimbursements and potentially impact other Federal grant programs.” See This page for details-

Canon 5D, tripod mount, using a Tamron 28-300 VC lens, three exposures +/-2 AEB, processed in Aperture and Photomatix
