Artist's Description

A construction worksite at the interchange of highways 826 and 836 in Miami, Florida, USA. The steel framework at the top is an overhead gantry crane that “walks” along the new overpass carrying precast segments and positioning them for connection. The smooth concrete in the upper left is a newly completed overpass. Another gantry crane can be seen in the distance. The roadway at the bottom of the image is the old highway, being disassembled.

This is a massive multi-year engineering project to build a new cloverleaf interchange over an existing interchange- creating an almost daily shift for the traffic that relentlessly carries on. Despite the slow economy, this project is a testament to the reality of urban sprawl and the tenacious grip we Americans have on the automobile.

Shot using a Canon 5D MK II, Tamron 28-300mm VC @ 150mm, three auto bracket @ 400 ASA exposures tonemapped in Photomatix and converted to B&W in Aperture with a high-pass filter applied via soft overlay in Photoshop.
