Artist's Description

Standing 192 Meters over St. Louis Missouri, USA, the stainless steel Gateway Arch is the tallest man-made monument in the US. Designed in 1947, and completed in 1965, the arch features two trams that lift visitors to the observation deck at the top from where vistas of the city to the west and the Mississippi River to the East can be seen.

The arch is also the site of the the National Park Service’s Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, which occupies the underground galleries and theaters below the arch.

This image is captured using a Canon 5D MK II with a Tamron 28-300 VC lens, and is composed from three exposures using +/-2 autobracketing which was then taken into Aperture and Photomatix to complete black and white HDR image which clearly details the weathered surface of the stainless structure.
