A Window

There she was
This girl
Fiery and strong –
Her heart pounding on its cage.
So much she had put behind her
And so much that lay ahead.
I saw her – in the window
Gazing
Her fragility intriguing
Awaiting the future
Paused, motionless, still.
Eyes as deep as canyons
And all consuming
The air it curled around her –
Wanting more
Her fingers moved
Heavy with meaning
The wind swept across her face,
It lingered – almost caught
With a turn of her head, ever so slightly
She could see the world and it could see her.
A beating so loud
Its silence deafening
The cage grew tighter,
Her heart, bigger, more passionate
Swelling – Pink and red and round
It had been waiting so patiently.
I turned to meet her gaze –
And she was gone.
The air still lingered and curled
Imploring her return.
The window, motionless, still.
She had seen the world and it had seen her.
