Artist's Description

Every morning I go out early and work in my garden. When the pumpkins are blooming it is really a treat. These huge blossoms are almost exotically tropical in appearance. The bloom only lasts a few hours each day and new ones come on as the plant grows. The pumpkin, as do all the squash family plants, produce both male and female blossoms. The female blossom will be atop a small green pumpkin about the size of a large grape. When it opens, it is fertilized by pollen from the male blossom as various insects move from bloom to bloom in the garden. If fertilization is successful, you will have a nice ripe orange pumpkin in about two months or so. Shot with a Nikon Coolpix 4300 digital.
