Artist's Description

This is on the northern side of the main road into Musselburgh (from Edinburgh’s end). In East Lothian, in Scotland.

As you can imagine, the weather was beautiful, enhanced (slightly) with a Lee polarising filter, which was used primarily to dampen the reflections – even if it ’doesn’t work’ with metal, it does! The River Forth is beyond it – with Fife ine the distance.

Michael Johnson, of Nottinghamshire is the Artist responsible for the twelve-by-six foot sculpture called, Memory & Reflection (something, I’d have thought the same?) Tesco put up the money for this stainless steel erection – but there’s another thing coming from Mr. Johnson which is an Archer on the bank of the River Esk (which runs through the town).

The ‘barnacles’ on it have a different coloured-finish and hold scenes of shipping or fishing in general, the local golf course, thistles, agriculture – subjects relating to “The Honest Toun”.

Speaking with people admiring it, a couple was most-amused when I suggested that some suitable Artwork is done for either Joppa Pans or Longniddry Bents !
