The famous " Bridge to No Where" in the Whanganui National Park New Zealand, Built in the early 1950s, a road was put in and bridge built to open up land to be cleared for return servicemen, land was allocated, and men worked hard to break in the land, but the land won with alot of the men walking away from their allocated farms, the country was too hard. The road slowly disappeared back into bush, but the bridge still remains, mainly accessed from the Whanganui River.

Great pic & story, love it :)
nice bridge, nice shot niggle.
Really love the composition and framing on this one – it makes the bridge seem to emerge from the bush.
Lovely spot! I am heading up there in March for the PSNZ national convention -going up the River by jet boat – cant wait. Have you seen Mark Brimblecombes images of this area?
Great shot, love the native bush also!
That’s so cool Nige. Can you walk over it still?
yeah its about a 40 min walk from the river and there it is, and yes you still can walk over it
I admire the way you composed this, with the angle of the bridge framed by the foliage on either side. Fascinating story. We narrowly avoided two expensive Bridges to Nowhere here this past year.
cheers for that
