Icarus Eyes

She had the eyes
the eyes that dared .
The foolish thing.
The immortal thing.
To be dipped
in the River Styx
and be made
new and powerful.
there was no River Styx
and she was no mortal.
What was she?
Only bones
and skin
and eyes
that Captivated
were Talked About, and Worshiped.
It wasn’t enough.
So she found
the guy doll that came
with warning labels
and cautions
and lead stickers attached
and got him
to do the foolish thing for her—
Build her the wings to carry her to her destiny—
It was an easy thing for him to do
he had built for
the people
of skin and
of bones and
of no heart before.
And he had his foolish act too.
He dared to love her
dared to stop her
But she was also spikes
and they impaled him.
And she took her wings
and stood before the winds of destiny
and let them blow her to the sun.
She was not scared.
She liked burning.
She flaunted
Got close to the sun
(since that was her goal)
She did not melt and resented the poor Icarus who had
she reached the sun
opened her eyes wide and stared
She flung off her wings
grabbed onto a tendril of power
She was prepared
even the sun was fascinated by her boldness
It stopped its fission-ing
for a moment
enveloped her into its core
Moments later
It spit out bones
and skin
there were no eyes to be found
The sun had kept the wise eyes
of the foolish woman.
But maybe the eyes had always
belonged to the sun.
Perhaps it was simply
regaining its property.
