Artist's Description

Inspired by the Bridge of Sighs …UK equivalent ?

In Italy, the view from the Bridge of Sighs was the last view of Venice that convicts saw before their imprisonment. The bridge name, given by Lord Byron in the 19th century, comes from the suggestion that prisoners would sigh at their final view of beautiful Venice out the window before being taken down to their cells.

Perhaps that could be likened to this view of an amazing bridge, as one leaves historic Newport Pagnell…for the modernity of Milton Keynes !

This is the world’s oldest operational cast iron road bridge, located in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Crossing the River Ouzel, Tickford Bridge was built in 1810.
