The Journey to Myself

The Journey to Myself

The journey to myself,
Is arduous and long,
But all the stony, lonely paths,
Have only made me strong.

I’ve eaten of the fruits of love,
Hoping to be filled,
But found before one gleans her fields,
With tears they must be tilled.

I’ve longed for freedom in my soul,
To fly upon her wings,
And found she seeks the virtues,
Required of a king.

I’ve tried to overcome,
The shadows deep within,
And ask myself year after year,
Can I ever win?

I’ve thought that being happy,
Was all that I desired,
But found I can’t be happy,
If even one soul cries.

I’ve tried to fare these trials alone,
But found it can’t be done,
I need to take you with me,
Because we all are one.

The sojourn isn’t over,
But I have the hope of kings,
To end the journey to myself,
And fly on freedom’s wings.
