At last! Internet! I sit in front of my computer, expecting to open the World Wide Web.
My son, with a lot of patience, trys to explain how easy it is to use a computer.Switch it on, push the PC button, Enter……..and there we go!!!
After some time, the screen opens. You have to know, my computer is real old, not to say stoneaged, brought together from generous friends and relatives.
“Take the optical mouse in your right hand” (Explanation for beginners: the “mouse” looks like a flat egg split in two halfs, and in the middle there is a little wheel) “To be able to use the mouse Mom, click on it.” Now, anybody can do that….where’s the problem! I want to send an E-mail to my brother. I press a button on the keyboard…………….everything is gone, just disappeared. I look at my son? “No problem, Mom” We switch places. Like a flash of lightning, his fingers fly over the keyboard. Everythings back! Hmmm, now what did he say? Oh…right. Take the mouse,CLICK….a little arrow shows up. Really amazing, just the help I need. CLICK, my computer makes a lot of noise and is very slowwww.
My son goes over to our dog on the couch , starts to play with him. I use the time to study my notes.
Ahhhh……something on the screen………but it looks different, not like what was on when my son handled it.I’m supposed to register my E-mail address and code,
but how? I’m so frustrated. My son takes a deep breath"Mom, what did I tell you to do" Heh I’m 59 years old. I can’t keep up on this like a teenager! O.K. once again from the beginning.
“Now place your address and code” All right…..I start typing: Name, Address, zipcode….. “NO……NO……NO! An E-mail address is different.” His fingers fly over the keyboard. “Did you get it?” What a question………of course. I start typing the mail for my brother, but how do I send it off? My eyes look in my sons direction………I HAVE A HEADAGE…….and he is near a nerves breakdown. “Mom….look….click there!” My letter is on it’s way. My son leaves the room. After a while, I got mail! My brother answers. Fantastic!! I want to open it and……….uppss…………everything has changed. I’M FED UP! Where’s my son! I go to the kitchen and get myself a cup of coffee. My son is back. “Well? How’s everything going?” He looks at the stressed expression on my face, then the monitor. Deep breath….no comment….we switch places

Everyone who had problems to learn to use a computer will know excatly what I am talking about.
It was so difficult, and still the more I used it, the easier it became. Today I don’t want to miss it.
