Artist's Description

To Observe the World
The images in this series came from the notion of ‘The Animal’ as a moral observer, as used in some Medieval, Renaissance, and Pre-Raphaelite paintings.
What I was trying to do was construct a landscape (with very evident joins) that in some way reflected the multiple ways we possess and view our environment – a mix of beauty and tragedy/disaster in many cases.
Somewhere in each image there is an animal who may be observing, and casting judgement, on this scene, but may also be doing the same to the viewer.
All the images used to construct these pictures were taken by me – I have a distrust of stock images, and perhaps? there is some additional layer of truth as a result of what I saw in them to start with, and what they have become.
