Artist's Description

Fort Grosnez is the Victorian fort at the base of the massive breakwater on Alderney. It was reused, like most forts on the island, by the Nazis. You can see a Nazi gun emplacement here.
Alderney or Aurigny in the dead Auregnais languge) is a tiny island in the English Channel, and a part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It is seven miles off the coast of France, and home to about 2000 people.
This fort, and the place where I took this image is often battered by huge Atlantic waves.
One thing Alderney does well is fog! Hundreds of ships and countless lives have been lost on the rocks around here in the fog.
