Billy

I don’t remember what day exactly it was when I decided I was no longer in love with Billy. I think it was Wednesday, but it could have been Thursday. In any case by the time Monday rolled around and I stood in the canteen queue, lining up to buy cheese popcorn and a green icy-pole, I knew I had moved on. Which was good because I noticed that Melanie was whispering something in Billy’s ear. That bitch. She was only new – she had only been at the school for three weeks and yet the little cow thought she could just become Billy’s girlfriend just like that. So it was extremely lucky that as of Wednesday (or Thursday) I didn’t love him anymore.
No, I had moved on. I’m not sure why and what happened. I really did love him until then. I loved him while we had the excursion to the museum to see the dinosaurs. I even sat next to him on the bus and leaned towards him in tight corners, thereby silently professing my love. I shared my sandwich (though not my PaddlePop). I laughed at his knock-knock joke even though I didn’t get it. I delicately looked in his eye and shook my head when he thought a bug had landed in there. And I loved him all the way home, even though he said he hated Home and Away. I think I may have still loved him on Thursday but on Friday something started to happen.
There was a new boy in school.
